Significant Events

Significant Events

The idea that significant events can change an individual’s perspective is true, for I believe that once it has happened it wouldn’t be the same as before. There are many cases in the novels I have read that the main character is changed by an event. Usually in novels the significant changes are for the better as in the novel “Finding Forrester”. This book is about Jamal, a black teenage kid from the Bronx that runs into the path of an amazing author. This interaction triggers a significant event for both Wallace and Forrester. Ever since they have met, it has inspired Jamal’s new life goal, for now he is supported in making positive academic achievements. Instead of hiding his true identity from his peers he now shows off his brilliance. Because of the new perspective in his mind, Jamal has changed from being a kid that had to hide his intelligence. He is now a kid in a new school for people who can show off how intellectual they are. Both the event of meeting Mr. Forrester and the change in schools have made a huge impact on Jamal’s life. These significant events have definitely changed the perspective of Jamal Wallace and now it’s a better learning environment for him to live in.

Although most significant events in stories end up making a positive impact to make the audience interested but, there are some who are less fortunate. In the text of the ‘Whip Hand’ it talks about Sid Halley, who was a world champion race jockey. Sid has suffered from a significant crash that crushed his left hand, thus ruining his riding career forever. This event has changed his perspective for now he cannot race, which is really devastating and had a massive effect on his perspective. The intensity of the crash made him severely injured and unable to race again in his lifetime.

Ever since birth there has been significant events in which it had to have changed an individual’s perspective. You may not realize that an event has changed you but I believe it has for every cause there is an effect. Each significant event in a person’s life takes time to make an impact. Just like friendship throughout the years of a kids childhood, it either strengthens or vanishes.

One strange Graduation

On the day of the grade 8 graduation it was a very beautiful day. The grad ceremony had just ended and everyone was starting to help clean up the aftermath of the graduation party. After that mess was done and chairs pack up I was in the hallway when the intercom turns on and a lady announces that she received a bomb threat. At first I thought it was very odd and unfortunate that it interrupted the graduation. Immediately after hearing this news I rushed to the nearest classroom which out of all possibilities was a grade 6 room. I could still hear the footsteps of other students run by but couldn’t get in for our teacher locked the door once she thought she had the max capacity of students. At first everyone was very loud but the teacher told us that it’s rare for something dangerous to happen.

While inside the room I decided to chose a nice perfect spot in the corner where I could somewhat hide how scared and in shock I felt. The worst part is that  I was in fear of getting killed by an intruder or the bomb even though the teacher assured us that we will be safe. After I felt a little bit safe I calmed down and just waited for it all to be over. In that moment of waiting, anything could happen within a single second. I created a solution in which  my idea was to block out everything and just wait it out this really horrifying time frame. Eventually two whole long boring hours of  creepy silence has passed. I hear the intercom lady tell everyone that it is safe to get out of lock down and that an email will be sent to all our parents of what has happened. Hearing this made me feel strong and powerful for if I could withstand being in a very serious threat and that I could be strong enough to overcome anything. Although I wasn’t held hostage in like a bank or mall, I believe I have learned a valuable lesson in which it won’t be forgotten.

I slowly got up and stretched for it was very uncomfortable sitting on the cold hard ground, left the grade 6 classroom while others ran out like they were released from captive. I walked peacefully down the hallway, with the feeling of freedom, to my real classroom in which we were all told to pack up and go home for the grad is over. I then proceeded to my locker to get all my belongings and headed out the door. Immediately as I stepped out of the school I saw my parent’s car and they picked me up then proceeded to ask me a ton of questions in which I was too tired to comprehend and reply. Finally got home and just as I walked into the door I went directly to my room and fell asleep just as my head touched the pillow for it was a really scary and tiring day.

Breaking Bad

I love Breaking Bad, unpredictable and full of twists. It starts off with a chemistry teacher named Walter white who needs to make money to support his family and his operation to cure his cancer.  I have started watching this TV show last year, and I am hooked. Even though I didn’t start watching it since the release, I think I started it at a good time for I wasn’t busy. My adventure with Breaking Bad started last year when I just started chemistry, I don’t know why but it was just amazing to learn about chemistry. In chemistry we studied the periodic table but from Breaking Bad I was told that it could create an illegal substance called crystal meth which made me feel scared to even watch this show. Even though I knew that in the show they were making an illegal product I still watched it for the chemistry and the cool reactions that were made by using different ingredients. Now that the final season is almost over I am still curious as to how it will work out and if it would say “to be continued”.
